Under normal temperature conditions, a Tesla loses about 5 to 10 degrees of battery power within 24 hours. If parked for a long time, the daily power loss of a Tesla is around 1% to 3%. Calculated at a 3% loss per day, a fully charged Tesla will take approximately 20 to 30 days to deplete its battery while parked. For a Tesla that has been parked for a long time, when the battery level drops below 5%, the vehicle will enter sleep mode, cutting off the on-board electronic devices to reduce power consumption, and the discharge rate will drop to 4% per month. If the battery level drops to 0, the vehicle will be locked and the doors cannot be opened. At this point, the car needs to be towed to a Tesla service center for inspection and restart.
The reasons for Tesla's power loss include:
- Power loss due to low temperature: Whether it is a lithium iron phosphate battery or a ternary lithium battery, when the temperature is too low, the activity of lithium ions will decrease, resulting in a reduced battery discharge rate.
- Sentry Mode: In this mode, Tesla enters a standby sleep state, but the on-board cameras and sensors remain operational.
- Overheat protection: When the vehicle is parked for a long time and the ambient temperature is high, Tesla will activate the cabin overheat protection function. Without A/C, when the cabin temperature exceeds 40℃, only the fan will run. With A/C on, when the cabin temperature exceeds 40℃, the air conditioning system will operate.
To reduce the power consumption of Tesla during parking, the following effective measures can be taken:
- Turn off the Sentry Mode: Although the Sentry Mode enhances security, it also consumes additional power.
- Keep the battery level above 20%: When the battery level drops below 20%, the power loss rate will significantly increase. Especially when the battery level is below 10%, the power loss rate may even double.
- Press and hold the air conditioning button before getting out of the car: This will turn the air conditioning icon gray, indicating that the air conditioning is off, thereby reducing power consumption.
These measures can effectively reduce the power loss of Tesla during parking and ensure that the vehicle remains in good condition after long-term parking.
